North Carolina’s housing challenges

The Face to Face with Poverty initiative has uncovered the following as housing challenges in North Carolina:

  • Lack of decent, safe and affordable housing
  • Credit issues that prevent low-income individuals from acquiring affordable housing Lack of resources for the homeless
  • Shrinking federal subsidies
  • High costs of utility bills, especially for Eastern North Carolina residents
  • Lack of employment
  • Lack of information about available resources
  • Criminal records that keep people out of affordable housing
